Gallagher's Patent Drafting is pleased to offer their clients the service of providing patent drawings via the Internet. If your company has:

  • An e-mail address

  • A 600 dpi printer

  • The Adobe Acrobat Reader [PDF files]

  • A-4 or letter size paper

...then you will be able to print formal patent drawings from within your office that can be filed at the Patent Office.

The real benefit of using e-mail is that if you check the drawing and approve it, then you can continue the submission process. You will not have to wait for the formal drawings to be sent as you will already have them in hand.

Currently, over 98% of our clients are using e-mail to receive patent drawings from us.

Advantages of Using the Internet to Transfer Documents

  • Speed — A file attached to an e-mail will typically arrive within minutes at your computer after being sent no matter where you are located

  • Convenience e-Mail is delivered directly to your computer, bypassing problems such as slow staff delivery and difficulties with fax machines such as unreadable faxes, busy signals, paper jams, etc.

  • No delivery charges — And it's faster than Federal Express

  • Ability to print drawings on demand — Needing an extra set of drawings for foreign filing, your client, or others is no problem

  • Saves reviewing time — Drawings can be sent for review as e-mail attachments. Instead of checking a fax version of the drawings you would be checking the actual formal drawing

  • Additional costs — Nothing ($0.00). The Adobe Acrobat Reader is free to all. It can be downloaded from Adobe’s web site and installed in your computer.

Procedure to use the internet to receive patent drawings

  • Send to Gallagher's Patent Drafting the drawings using one of the conventional methods such as regular mail, fax, overnight service, or as an e-mail attachment. Clients send work using a wide variety of electronic files which we can convert or reformat as needed.

  • We will prepare your drawings using our drawing software and then create a password protected Adobe Acrobat file. The file would then be attached to an e-mail addressed to you and sent via the Internet.

  • You would receive the file and start to open it using the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. A window would pop up and ask you to enter the password that we had agreed upon in advance. Here is an example file that has the password "test".

  • You could then print out the drawings to review them.

  • If there are no corrections, you are done at this point. If corrections are needed they can be sent by phone, fax, etc. We would make any corrections needed and resend the password protected Adobe Acrobat file.

  • At this point you would have at your computer a file that can be used to print out your formal drawings on demand.
